The Awesome Race

Luang Prabang will shake off its sleepy low season on Sunday 1st June when it hosts a city-wide scavenger hunt, named ‘The Awesome Race’. Teams of 4 will run, bike, moto and tuk tuk across town racing against each other to win prizes and ultimate glory. Teams must decipher cryptic clues to make it to their next pit stop, facing challenges along the way…this is no marathon and a combination of brains, brawn, courage and speed will determine the winners with the slowest teams suffering elimination throughout the day.

Teams have the opportunity to win pit stop prizes, along with major prizes for overall winners thanks to the generous support of many of Luang Prabang’s local businesses. Other businesses have chipped in their support of the local community with donations, venues and other assistance.

Nominations have opened for teams to enter. Teams will be advantaged by having at least one Lao team member, who will offer invaluable assistance on some especially Lao-flavoured challenges! Each person contributes a 100,000Kip entry fee which will be donated one of six shortlisted charities with the race winners deciding which local NGO receives the donation. Vying for support are the Bamboo School, Free the Bears, Friends International, House of Dreams, Lao Red Cross and My Library. To enter a team you can contact Sam on 020 5563 1618, but spaces are limited.

The race will kick off at 8am at Ock Pop Tok’s Living Craft Centre on the banks of the Mekong River. Spectators are welcome to join the fun at the start line and enjoy a race-day breakfast at the Silk Road Cafe. Later in the day spectators can enjoy race festivities along the Nam Khan River and in Ban Aphay, with The House Restaurant, Hive Bar, and Aussie Bar offering some special race-day meal promotions.

Teams will head to the finish line from 4:30pm to enjoy the prize ceremony and handing over the charity donation at Lao Lao Garden, followed by an after-race party with more race-day food & drink deals. All welcome!

This race is completely not-for-profit and 100% just-for-fun, for the Luang Prabang community, by the community.

We hope to see you there!
