‘Doksuri’, One Of The Strongest Tropical Cyclones To Arrive In Laos On September 15

Tropical Cyclone Doksuri is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of Laos on Friday, September 15. Doksuri, packing maximum sustained winds of 83 km/h (52 mph) as of 01:00 (local time in Laos) on Friday, is likely to intensify in the coming days, and is forecast to make landfall in Vietnam on Friday night with wind speeds of at least 118 km/h (around 73 mph).

Doksuri is expected to be one of the strongest tropical cyclones to strike Vietnam and Laos in recent years.

Widespread flooding, landslides, and travel disruptions are possible in Laos following landfall, especially in the central and northern regions of the country.

Advice

Individuals in Laos are advised to monitor weather forecasts and to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g., potential evacuation orders). Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous – 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
