The President of China’s Hunan Chamber of Commerce to Laos was murdered on Sunday at his house in Sikhottabong district in central Vientiane.

Video footage and photos circulated on social media revealed that the businessman, Mr Xaysana Yotsavanh, who was of Chinese origin but became a Lao citizen, had been stabbed in the back. There were also large wounds on his head.

The Chinese Embassy to Vientiane said it had learnt about the incident.

Vientiane police officers have attended the scene to gather information while a motive for the killing is still unknown. The businessman was murdered on his bed. Police declined to provide further details.
Mr Xaysana was the president of a road and bridge construction and decorator company. He was also president of an electricity installation company, and president of a charity foundation in Vientiane.

He was also a member of the Laos-China Friendship Association.

The tragedy is the latest incident in which a high-profile businessman has been murdered.
In October last year, a Chinese businessman was shot dead in front of Sikhay Plaza shopping mall, which he operated.

Police said the murder of Mr Su Wang Tien, 60, was the result of a business dispute. But there has been no published report on the progress of the investigation into the killing and whether any arrests have been made in connection with the case.
