A second night market at Chao Anouvong Park area in Chanthabouly district, Vientiane along the Mekong riverbank is expected to open soon with many stallholders registering interest in advance, according to authorities.

Deputy District Governor of Chanthabouly district, Mr Bountheung Souvansy told Vientiane Times on Tuesday that over 300 stalls have been constructed at the new night market at the site.

This night market will allow shoppers to enjoy the sunset along the Mekong riverbank and buy local souvenirs, T-shirts and other local products near Chao Anouvong Park, a popular public park in the capital.

“Currently, many sellers are registered to preempt the stalls and the night market is expected to open in September to October. The night market is a concession by Dao-Heuang Group,” he said.

The night market will operate from 3pm-10pm. It will become the second night market along the Mekong.

When the project is complete, more people will be able to enjoy more evening shopping opportunities after finishing exercise or just to relax.

The first night market at Chao Anouvong Park will still see stalls set up after sunset where you can enjoy browsing for local Buddhist-inspired imagery, a pair of sunglasses or a souvenir T-shirt.

Such evening markets have become increasingly popular in Laos for their lower prices along with attractive and convenient surroundings.

Markets provide a great place to look for attractive souvenirs while strolling and eating local street food or just to sit and chill out on the Mekong riverbank as you watch locals and visitors get some exercise.

The present first night market is open from 5pm-9.30pm daily, giving locals people and foreigners a chance to pick up a bargain and do some people watching in the evening cool by the riverside.
