“Many schools are in need of teachers because of our mismanagement of teachers as many teachers teach subjects different from what they have been taught at universities or teacher training colleges. For instance, mathematic teachers are assigned to teach Lao language, Lao language teachers teach English classes. There are too many teachers for one subject but few for another,” said Minister Sengdeuane.

To mitigate teacher shortage and improve teaching and learning at schools, the Ministry of Education and Sports has recently decided to change the way new teachers are selected by allowing schools to choose by themselves qualified teachers who have passed an exam.
