Strong Winds, Storms Forecast Countrywide

Southern and central regions can expect light rain and strong winds from May 4-7, while thunderstorms, hail and strong winds are possible throughout the country from May 8-10, the Meteorology and Hydrology Department has forecast.

The department, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, issued a forecast of thunderstorms, strong winds and hailstorms and urged everyone to be on their guard against extreme weather conditions.

In the northeast, strong winds are forecast from May 4-7 while thunderstorms and squalls are likely in Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces from May 8-10. Temperatures will range from 17-33 degrees Celsius.

Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces will have light rain and strong winds from May 4-7, while from May 8-10 light rain, thunderstorms and wind squalls are forecast for parts of Luang Namtha, Oudomxay, Bokeo, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces. Temperatures are forecast at 21-40C.

Vientiane will be hot with light rain and thunderstorms, while strong winds are forecast for the provinces of Vientiane, Borikhamxay, Khammuan and Savannakhet from May 4-10. Temperatures will range from 23-40C.

Saravan, Champassak, Xekong and Attapeu provinces can expect strong winds and thunderstorms from May 04-10, with the mercury predicted to rise to 24-40C. Central areas of the country will have thunderstorms and strong winds from May 4-10, with temperatures of 25-40C.
