Vienstock Rock Festival 2014: Rock For Education

What is Vienstock Rock Festival ? Vienstock is an independent charity rock Concert, it was created by Pierre Bourlard, a.k.a DJ Pierre, and featured last year 5 international bands, 3 Lao bands and a DJ play. The Festival’s slogan is “Rock for education”.

In 2013 Vienstock was held on Vientiane International School sport field. All profits from the entrance fees and T shirt sale proceeded to Ban Sapphanthongtai school. For the first edition 2700 USD were raised for some urgent sanitation work.

In 2014 we organize the second version of Vienstock in Ban Simeuang, the French school (Hoffet school) let us use their sport field. 11 lao and international rock bands will participate:

-Lao bands:Cells, Boxer, Leprozy, Black Eyes, Black Rose,

-International bands based in Vientiane: Honky Tongs (play rock and funk), The Frogs (play rock and indie music), Bo Po Hoedown (Rock), Sugar mouth (Rock). One band from France, the Wampas Family, lead by Didier Wampas (punk rock singer whose career started in the 80s), will also perform that night, with the support of the French Institute. The band Stonewall, will support them, (playing 1980s heavy metal and hard rock)

Why this event?

-Supporting a good cause: this is a charity concert for educational purpose, entrance fees go to Piavat school for some construction work and will also support other serious projects in the field of education. This is also a chance for the people to enjoy watching Lao and foreigner bands together for a good cause and in a nice location.

-Visibility: a large Lao and foreign audience is expected: more than 700 hundred people attended the first edition, from 7 to 77 year old. This year, the choice of the location was especially made in order to guarantee a greater visibility, thanks to the support of the French School who lends its football field, next to Khou Vieng road, for the festival.

– Quality: a big stage will host the artists. A 30 000 watt high quality sound system will provide a quality sound covering the whole surface of the soccer field. A professional lightning and sound engineer will allow this event to reach high standards in terms of quality. 8 stands will provide Lao and western food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Security is assured by the local police and hired staff. The field and the environment are an ideal location for such an event which aims at recreating the authentic atmosphere of a outdoor rock festival in the style of Woodstock Festival, one of the first major rock festival, which took place in 1969 and was a concert for peace featuring legendary rock n’ roll artists, at the time of Vietnam war.
