5th Lao-Singapore Friendship Charity Run

The 5th Lao-Singapore Friendship Charity Run will take place on Saturday, 7 December 2013 at 6.00 am. Registration begins at the King Anouvong Park/statue along the Mekong embankment, and the route will take us from there along the embankment towards Thadeua Road, past the ASEM villas and Landmark Hotel, and to the junction of Thadeua/Lao-Thai Road and back, towards the park.

For the inaugural run, the Singapore Embassy partnered the Institute of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR) and the Laos-Singapore Friendship Club (LFSC). To date, the runs have raised money for the rebuilding of schools in Salavan affected by typhoon, a motorbike repair centre at a drug rehabilitation centre, construction projects for new facilities at Ban Pong Song in Hinheub District, and an ongoing anternatal care programme for high-risk pregnant mothers at Xathany District Hospital.

4th Charity Run2This year, the Embassy has partnered the Lao Women’s Union (LWU), and funds raised will be channeled to vocational training and equipment for disadvantaged women at LWU’s Vocational Training Centre in Vientiane.  The objective is to benefit these women through training programs that will provide them simple vocational skills to prepare them for alternative livelihoods.

Tickets cost 30,000 Kip. Every ticket comes  with a limited edition run shirt, and a chance to win great lucky draw prizes, such as return air passage to Singapore, an Ipod Shuffle, dining vouchers, beer as well as  health check-up vouchers.  An auction will also be held after the run for a pair of return air tickets to Singapore, the proceeds of which go towards the cause.
