The Vientiane Public Works and Transport Department has reminded local residents that it is illegal to place no-parking signs on roads outside houses or businesses.
Now the department has made it clear that individuals, legal entities and organisations of any kind are prohibited from putting no-parking signs or cones on roadsides in order to reserve parking spaces.
In addition, it is forbidden to place advertisements or other signs, as well as vending carts, on roads or pavements, or to organise ceremonies that spill over onto sidewalks and roads, without first getting permission from the government.
Anyone found to be in breach of these regulations will be fined. Private use of public space is banned to ensure that motorists have free use of roads, except in places where red lines are painted on kerbs.
