Hot Weather to Persist Countrywide

Hot and humid conditions will continue across Laos for at least until April 20, while thunderstorms and strong winds are possible in some areas of the southern provinces, according to the latest forecast from the Meteorology and Hydrology Department.​

In Phongsaly, Huaphan, and Xieng Khuang provinces the temperature range will be below average at 18-32 degrees Celsius.

It will be hotter in Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang, and Xayaboury, where there will be some cloud cover and temperatures ranging from 19-40C.

The central provinces of Vientiane, Borikhamxay, and Khammuan can also expect more hot weather with sporadic thunderstorms and strong winds and an expected temperature range of 25-39C. It will be cooler in Xaysomboun province where the temperature range is forecast at 19-32C.

In the south, occasional thunderstorms and strong winds​ are possible in Champassak, Xekong, and Attapeu provinces, with temperatures ranging from 27-39C.
Plateau areas will be cool with isolated thunderstorms and wind gusts and temperatures ranging from 19-28C.

In Vientiane, temperatures will range from 28-39C.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Meteorology Department forecasts that provinces bordering Laos, namely Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, and Khon Kaen, can expect very hot conditions and continuing air pollution, with isolated thundershowers and gusty winds possible until noon on April 20. Winds will be southeasterly with speeds of 10-20 km/hour. The minimum temperature range will be 25-29C and the maximum range will be 40-42C.
