There are many reasons to visit Luang Prabang in September and October, let us mention just a few here:

Luang Prabang Half MarathonLuang Prabang Half Marathon: On October 12th the second International Half Marathon will take place right on the doorstep of Hotel Villa Deux Rivieres; This is only the second time a race of this type has been held in Luang Prabang, and this may be a great opportunity for your to participate in a race where everybody is raising money for charity. Festival of lights Luang PrabangFestival of lights: This is the “Lai Heua Fai” Festival, the festival of the fire boat. The day is celebrated by illuminated boat processions handmade with bamboo and banana trunks, colourfully decorated with candles and money. In Luang Prabang, a big parade happens that day. Most of the village of the town (around 20) are building their own big boat, competing every year for the most beautiful one. Ethnic groups are wearing their traditional clothes, people singing, chanting, dancing, fireworks are launched all around… This is certainly the most attractive festival in Luang Prabang.

Flora and Fauna: During high season the town and surroundings become dry and dusty. But once the rains hit, the area bursts with colour – the surrounding hills are covered with luscious bright green forests, the rice fields are striking and colourful flowers bloom around the town. This is also the butterfly season – huge, magnificent, colourful butterflies can be spotted especially around the shores of the river and up by Kuang Si waterfall.

Tad Sae WaterfallsWaterfalls: All the waterfalls, including the beautiful Tad Sae (which are dried up in the high season) are spectacular and a wonderful place to go and cool off with a refreshing swim.
