John Lee Signs 12 MoUs with Laos to Facilitate Economic and Trade Cooperation

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu signed 12 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on Monday and described it as an excellent opportunity for the government and business community to further discuss and expand economic and trade cooperation between Laos and Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong leader departed on Sunday for a six-day visit to three ASEAN countries to promote the developments of Hong Kong and explore business opportunities.
He continued his visit today and met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Saleumxay Kommasith, at Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and signed 12 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU).
Among them, representatives from the Hong Kong government and corporations met with representatives from the Loatian Customs, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, schools, and enterprises, respectively, and conducted the signing ceremony.
Kommasith said that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Laos President Thongloun Sisoulith jointly signed a 2024-2028 action plan on building the China-Laos community with a shared future last year, laying a solid foundation for bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, and described today as a good opportunity that allows the government and business community to further discuss and expand economic and trade cooperation between Laos and Hong Kong.
Lee said that this is his first visit to Laos as the Hong Kong Chief Executive, making it quite a historic and significant visit.
He believes that this morning, he has had a good start with the business community and also had the opportunity to meet with them to exchange views.
The Hong Kong leader believes that commercial activities will consistently achieve a win-win result for the people on both sides and has always focused on the entire government and societal forces to strengthen commercial and economic development.
He also mentioned that Hong Kong can contribute to ASEAN countries in many aspects, and the primary purpose of this visit is to strengthen ties between the governments of the two places, as well as business and interpersonal exchanges.
