Laos is in Google’s Top 10 Most Searched Travel Destinations

Laos was recently listed among 10 other countries most frequently targeted in Google searches for popular travel destinations this year, according to a study conducted by Betway, as reported by Singapore-based Yahoo Online on Thursday.

The report said that research by Betway revealed the destinations that are growing in popularity and are likely to see the highest increase in tourists. The study was also based on Google search data over the past year for 118 destinations set to be popular in 2023.

Laos ranked 10th for percentage increase in Google searches in the past six months with 18.23 percent, while Vietnam ranked 8th with 18.3 percent.

Morocco took the lead with the highest number of searches with a search percentage increase of 63.58 percent, followed by Croatia, Costa Rica, Spain, New Zealand, Turkey, Poland, Mauritius, and Peru.

According to Betway’s statistics, the Laos Google search volume from February to August last year was recorded at 670,000 times and the registered volume for September 2022 to February 2023 was 823,000 times, an increase of 18.23 percent in the number of Google searches conducted in the past six months.

Meanwhile, Mauritius and Vietnam registered figures of 18.30 percent for Google searches in the past six months with a record of more than 1.8 million Google searches from February 2022 to August 2022 and 2.2 million from September 2022 to February 2023.

Laos is renowned for its natural beauty, Buddhist temples, and traditional, laid-back way of life. Every year, millions of foreign tourists come to explore this attractive landlocked country in Southeast Asia.

The country has also recently been listed by several internationally recognized travel magazines and publications as a highly desirable travel destination.
For example, National Geographic, one of the most widely-read and respected magazines in the world, selected Laos as one of the 25 most breathtaking places to visit in 2023.

In addition, the America-based Time Magazine listed the old quarter of Luang Prabang as one of the world’s top places to visit in 2023.

A travel expert recently observed that Laos has long been renowned as an intriguing travel destination and is widely recognized by international visitors. But many more interesting and amazing places in the country are still waiting to be made accessible to visitors.

“These places are in need of investment and proper management so they can attract tourists and make a sizeable profit, based on an environmentally friendly model of protective and sustainable development,” he said.
