A man used a knife to attack and kill a relative in Luang Prabang province on Sunday after they became involved in a heated argument.
Police said the stabbing occurred on the evening of March 20 in Viengphai village, Luang Prabang city.
The father of the dead man sustained critical injuries when he tried to intervene in the fight.

Authorities have detained the attacker and are carrying out an enquiry into the incident in order to determine the full facts of the case.
The rising murder rate in Laos is a cause of concern and is attributed in part to growing drug use and gambling.
Drug abuse is the cause of many social ills, especially bag snatching and other types of theft, as well as murders. Most of these incidents are drug-related and involve young and unemployed people.
Over the past year police have apprehended several drug dealers and made numerous arrests in an attempt to suppress the drug trade.
