Weather forecasters are warning people in central and southern Laos to expect more showers and strong winds this week.
The Meteorology and Hydrology Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has issued a weather alert for the central and southern provinces from September 17-20, saying people should keep a close eye on weather conditions and monitor national and local news stations for weather updates.
Records show that rainfall last week was greater than during the same period last year, especially in central regions.
The department advises people to be on their guard against flooding, landslides, and water that does not drain away. It also recommends them to move their belongings and pets to higher ground.
More hot weather is forecast throughout the country today, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
Until September 20, parts of Phongsaly, Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces can expect occasional thunder and rain, with temperatures ranging from 19-34C.
In the northwest, it will be hot during the day with rain in many places until September 20. There will be thunderstorms and heavy rain from September 17-20 in some parts of Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces with temperatures of 23-34C.
In central areas, there will be light rainfall accompanied by occasional squalls. Heavy rain and wind is forecast for some parts of Vientiane, Savannakhet, Borikhamxay and Khammuan provinces. Temperatures will range from 24-35C.
In the south today there will be high temperatures with light rain in some places. From September 17-20, light to heavy rain is forecast for most areas, accompanied by wind gusts in Saravan, Champassak, Xekong, and Attapeu provinces. Temperatures will range from 26-34C.
