Most Traffic Accidents In September Caused By Drunk Driving And Speeding

A total of 62 people died and 759 people were injured in 498 road traffic accidents that occurred nationwide last month, with most accidents caused by drunk driving and speeding, according to the Public Security Newspaper.

Police said most accidents occurred when people drove in the wrong lane or changed direction suddenly.

The crashes caused damage to 816 vehicles and 15 vehicles were write-offs.

Of the 62 people who died, 46 were motorbike riders. Most of the accidents occurred in Vientiane which reported 116 crashes.

Savannakhet province reported 62 accidents, Champassak province 61, Vientiane province 39, Attapeu province 30, Luang Prabang province 29, Borikhamxay province 26, Saravan province 24, Luang Namtha province 19, Bokeo province 18, and Xayaboury province 13.

Over the New Year holiday in January, police said 72 accidents occurred as a result of drunk driving, killing 17 people, and 65 accidents were caused by speeding, in which 13 people died.
