Seventh Person Dies From Covid-19

Another person has died from Covid-19, raising the overall death toll to seven, while 244 new infections were reported countrywide on Friday.

The Champassak Taskforce for Covid-10 Prevention and Control reported the death of a 38-year-old man, who lived in Veunsom village, Khong district.

He had been working in Thailand and returned to Laos via the Vangtao-Chong Mek international border crossing on July 23.
He was admitted to a temporary hospital and tested positive for Covid-19 on July 25.

The man reportedly suffered from diabetes and developed kidney failure and died on Friday after his condition quickly deteriorated.

Speaking on behalf of the National Taskforce for Covid-10 Prevention and Control, Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control, Dr Sisavath Soutthaniraxay, said the 244 new cases of Covid-19 raises the total number of cases to date to 5,919.

Dr Sisavath said the new infections were detected after 2,379 tests were carried out over the past 24 hours.

Vientiane reported 31 new cases, Savannakhet recorded 118, Champassak reported 38, Saravan reported 46, and Khammuan recorded 10 new cases.

One community-acquired case was recorded in Savannakhet province.
