The Book Store Speaking Your Language

Although there’s still no English language library in Vientiane, at this small, second-hand book store located at the “Black Stupa” near the US Embassy you can find books in English, French, German, Dutch, Lao and many other languages.  Buy as many as you want and once you’re finished reading them you can always take them back and exchange them for new ones at 50% of the price.  I’m someone who reads a lot, but who doesn’t like to start up a “library” at home, therefore the concept of exchanging books is very appealing to me. With many expats and tourists visiting the shop, the books on offer constantly change.  You probably won’t find Homer’s Odyssey or War and Peace, but you will find a number of fairly recent bestsellers and other classics. Most books are priced between 35,000 and 60,000 Kip.
