Tropical Storm Lionrock To Bring More Rain

Tropical storm Lionrock will pass over northern and central Laos from October 10-12, bringing thunderstorms, rain and squalls, while flooding and landslides are also possible, the Meteorology and Hydrology Department has warned.

People living in mountainous areas and on riverbanks should prepare to move their belongings and animals to safe places in the event of flooding and should keep track of weather forecasts.

The department has forecast thunderstorms throughout Phongsaly, Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces from October 9-11 and rain of varying intensity from October 12-15, with temperatures ranging from 15-28 degrees Celsius.

In the northwest there will be light rain and thunderstorms in parts of Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces from October 9-15. Temperatures will range from 19-31C.

The central provinces of Vientiane, Borikhamxay and Khammuan will also have thunderstorms from October 9-11 and rain from October 12-15, with an expected temperature range of 23-32C.

In the south there will be thunderstorms and rain in some areas of Champassak, Xekong and Attapeu provinces from October 9-15, where temperatures will range from 22-32C.

Vientiane can also expect thunderstorms from October 9-11 and rain from October 12-15, with temperatures ranging from 24-34C.

Everyone should be prepared for weather extremes and keep track of forecasts. Most areas of the country have suffered from the effects of squalls and thunderstorms this rainy season.
