In Xaythany district, police solved more than 30 crimes and arrested 74 suspects, including four women. Eleven cases involving drugs were solved and 22 people, including one woman, were arrested.

Vientiane police are also warning the public about the prevalence of theft of property and vehicles, and both these crimes occur almost daily in the capital.

Vientiane is a big city undergoing huge socio-economic development and it is impossible to completely eliminate crime, officials said. Police can arrest many offenders but when they are put behind bars, there will always be more to take their place, they said.

Members of the public should take better care of themselves because the criminals of today are different from those in the past, the officials said. They have new methods and technology to help them commit crimes, and it is up to the public to be alert at all times.
