Weather Bureau Issues Flood Alert

A tropical depression will pass over the central and southern provinces from October 26-29, putting some areas at risk of flooding and landslides, the Meteorology and Hydrology Department has warned.

People should prepare to move their belongings and animals to safe places in the event of flooding and should keep track of weather forecasts in the coming days.

The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and gusting winds in regions of Attapeu, Champassak, Xekong, Saravan, Khammuan and Savannakhet, with flooding and fallen trees possible in these areas.

The department has forecast thunderstorms, light rain and fog throughout Phongsaly, Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces from October 25-31, with temperatures ranging from 12-25 degrees Celsius.

In the northwest there will be light rain with winds gust, thunderstorms and fog in parts of Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces from October 29-31. Temperatures will range from 17-33C.

The central provinces of Vientiane, Borikhamxay and Khammuan will also have thunderstorms and light rain from October 29-31and fog from October 25-26, with an expected temperature range of 20-33.

In the south there will be thunderstorms and rain in some areas of Champassak, Xekong and Attapeu provinces from October 29-31, where temperatures will range from 20-31C.

Vientiane can also expect thunderstorms, rain and fog from October 29-31, with temperatures ranging from 19-32C.
