Avis Arrives In Laos

Car rental company Avis is launching operations in Cambodia and Laos, following the signing of a new licensing agreement in the two countries.

Avis has signed a deal with RMA Group that will lead to the opening of its first facilities in Luang Prabang, Pakse and Vientiane in Laos, and Phnom Penh and Siam Reap in Cambodia. These will include both airport and city locations. The agreement will make Avis the first international car rental company to operate in either country.

“Strengthening our global position remains a high priority as we seek to drive sustained, profitable growth,” said Patric Siniscalchi, Avis Budget’s president for Latin America & Asia Pacific.

“Our licensee agreement with RMA Group will allow us to expand our global footprint and help to ensure that we are well-positioned to realise the growth potential of the Avis brand in each country.”

The five new Avis facilities in Laos and Cambodia will offer fleets of modern vehicles for short- and long-term rentals, along with corporate car leasing programmes, chauffeur services and transfers.

Headquartered in Bangkok, RMA Group says it specialises in offering “automotive and infrastructure solutions for clients operating in difficult markets and terrains”.

“RMA is uniquely positioned to facilitate Avis Car Rental’s plan for growth,” Kevin Whitcraft, RMA’s chief executive officer. “We have long-established vehicle sales and distribution infrastructures in Cambodia and Laos, and we are the partner of choice to some of the world’s largest retail franchises in the Asia Pacific region. RMA is ready to support the enhancement of Avis’ global position as a leader in its sector.”

Avis launched in Asia in 1970, with the opening of its first branch in Hong Kong. Since then, it has expanded to approximately 300 rental locations in the region, including a presence in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.
