Source: Vientiane Times

Vehicles, especially heavy trucks, are advised to avoid using the section of Road No. 4C running from Kasy district in Vientiane province to Nan district in Luang Prabang province while the road is under repair.

Director of Kasy district’s Public Works and Transport Office, Mr Phan Namvong, told Vientiane Times on Wednesday that asphalt is being laid on some sections of the road to repair damage to the surface.

The work is taking place in the area of 9km Mountain and is expected to be complete at the end of this month.

Those who do use the road should act with caution while road works are underway or preferably use an alternative route.

Many sections of this mountainous road have been damaged so local authorities are speeding up repairs to make the road safe during the rainy season.

The 68-km section of national Road No. 4C in this area is steep and winding and is the scene of many accidents. The sharp bends have caused vehicles to drive off the road and plunge down precipices.

The road is a shortcut between Kasy and Nan districts and cuts travel time to 3-4 hours compared with Road No. 13 North through Phoukhoun district in Luang Prabang.

However, motorists are advised to use Road No. 13 North while the road works are underway, as this will be safer.
