Weather: Thunderstorms, Rain, and Strong Winds – Possible in All Areas

Lightning, thunderstorms, hail and strong winds are likely in some regions until May 14, residents should prepare for protecting their homes and property against damage, forecasters warn.

From May 15 to May 17, thunderstorms and light rain are likely in some areas of every province, the Meteorology and Hydrology Department has forecasted.

The weather will remain cool in the mornings with intermittent torrential rains, hail and squalls throughout Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces from May 8 to May 14, followed by showers and thunderstorms from May 15 to May 17. Temperatures are likely to range between 15-32 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures will remain high in the northwest. There will be thunderstorms, hail and wind gusts in parts of Luang Namtha, Bokeo,

Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces from May 8 to May 14.

Showers are likely from May 15 to May 17.

Temperatures will hover between 22-41C.

The central provinces of Vientiane, Borikhamxay and Khammuan will also experience thunderstorms, hail and strong winds with hot weather from May 8 to May 14, while thunderstorms are also possible from May 15 to May 17. Temperatures will range from 22-39C.

In Xaysomboun province, the mornings will be cool, while there will be thunderstorms with occasional gusting winds between May 8 and May 14.
The temperatures will range from 15-32C.

In the south, there will be thunderstorms, hail and strong winds in some areas of Champassak, Xekong and Attapeu provinces from May 8 to May 14, and light rain and thunderstorms from May 15 to May 17 in some regions. Temperatures will hover between 25-40C.

The plateaus will remain cool with likely thunderstorms and strong winds from May 8 to May 14. The temperatures are likely to be between 17-29C. Vientiane can expect thunderstorms, light rain and wind gusts from May 8 to May 15, with temperatures ranging from 23-40C.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Meteorology Department says that provinces bordering Laos, namely Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom and

Khon Kaen can expect scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rains from May 11 to May 14.

Southeasterly winds will course through at a speed of 10-20 km/hour.

From May 15 to May 17, most provinces can expect isolated thunderstorms accompanied by south-easterly winds with speeds of 10-20 km/hour.

The minimum temperature range will be 20-27C and the maximum range will be 31-37C.
