Patu Xay Cafe

Often forgotten when people wrack their brains as to where to eat, Patuxay Cafe opened its first outlet on Sibounheung Road last year and it has been the restaurant of choice for many a business lunch ever since. Thoughtfully located just a hop, skip and a jump away from Patuxay, Vientiane’s Victory Monument, where there has never been much in the way of Western fare before, it’s a boon for nearby government ministries, banks and many of Lao’s largest charities and non-government organisations.

Patu Xay CafeThe cafe serves a wonderful variety of sandwiches, salads, cakes and other baked goods and their coffee is very nice, as is their broad range of fruit shakes, smoothies and juices.  I’ve been there personally several times, usually when doing business in the area, and it never disappoints. The management and staff are very friendly, and most of them speak French (which is great if you do too), as well as excellent English. I recommend the croix monsieur, particularly.

Patuxay Cafe has also opened a second, smaller restaurant in the centre of town near the fountain (Namphou). This is an especially good place to try their great cakes. So, no matter whether it’s for work or play, keep Patuxay cafe in mind for a great breakfast, lunch or brunch.
