Everywhere I travel lately I just can’t stop running into bars selling tapas. These little ‘mini-dishes’ seem to be taking the world by storm. They’re enjoyed particularly by those (like me) who like to have a graze on multiple plates alongside a drink.

Tapas is actually the name of a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They may be served warm or cold and are served per order. In many bars around the world, the tapas model has evolved into an entirely new cuisine. Think of it like international dim-sum that goes well with a drink.

Vegetarians beware: Xayoh Grill House is truly a meat-lover’s paradise! This restaurant has just been refurbished and rebranded as a Grill House rather than a cafe. And boy am I happy to hear it! There are times when us expats really just crave a big hunk of meat to sink our teeth into, and Xayoh Grill provides just that.

Ban Moon Restaurant and Beer Garden is a true-blue Aussie ‘home-style’ restaurant set in the garden terrace of Barry and his wife’s Vientiane home.
As you walk in you will be greeted by Barry with a nod and a handshake and ushered to your seat for possibly the coldest beer in Laos. And this is what makes the place so great; it’s comfort food in a comfortable setting.
